IN THE WAKE OF THE REV. AL SHARPTON AND MSNBC’S PRESENTATION OF “ADVANCING THE DREAM: LIVE FROM THE APOLLO,” WHICH AIRED ON SEPTEMBER 6, MIKE SPEAKS WITH THE REV. SHARPTON REFLECTING ON THE 1963 BOMBING OF THE 16TH STREET BAPTIST CHURCH IN BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA. “WE ARE NOW PART OF A TIME WHERE THE CULTURE IS SO ACCELERATED THAT WE THINK OF HISTORY AS LAST FRIDAY NIGHT. AND YET THIS WAS SUCH A SEMINAL MOMENT IN THE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY, OCCURRING A MONTH AFTER THE MARCH ON WASHINGTON [AND] TWO MONTHS PRIOR TO PRESIDENT KENNEDY’S DEATH.
