MIKE IN RESPONSE TO RON FOURNIER’S ARTICLE IN THE NATIONAL JOURNAL “WHAT IF OBAMA CAN’T LEAD,” SAYS: “EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED SO MUCH OVER THE LAST 10 OR 15 YEARS IN TERMS OF LEADERSHIP IN WASHINGTON. IT USED TO BE THERE WAS FEAR OF THE PRESIDENCY…THAT FEAR IS GONE BECAUSE THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT CONSTITUENCY IN THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE. THEY CAN GO ON TWITTER, THEY CAN GO ON CABLE TV IN THEIR OWN HOME DISTRICTS. THEY HAVE THEIR OWN MEGAPHONES NOW TO COUNTERACT EVEN THE PRESIDENCY…THERE HAS BEEN A STRIKING LACK OF LEADERSHIP FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES—ESPECIALLY IN DEALING WITH THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE [AND] ESPECIALLY IN DEALING WITH POTENTIAL LEGISLATION—A TREMENDOUS LACK OF LEADERSHIP.”
