On MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon discusses the lack of momentum to strengthen gun check laws in the wake of the Orlando night club attack. According to an October 2015 CBS poll, 92 percent of Americans favored background checks, as did 87 percent of Republicans polled. Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough says: “This is a 9 and 10 issue, even for Republicans.” Veteran columnist and MSNBC contributor Mike Barnicle explains: “It’s not a 9 and 10 issue in the United States Senate. 54 Republican Senators voted against the right for the FBI to arrest people on the watch list trying to buy a gun.
